LUCID Wireless Applications
The LUCID project will demonstrate the possibilities for context and location-aware applications using the Free-Information Zone provided by Birmingham City Council.
These applications will be able to send information on public transport, attractions, shops and services to citizens and visitors in the test zone in the centre of Birmingham based on their interests and needs and where they are. As well as new services, the project will offer opportunities for technology businesses to explore Wi-Fi and 3G and to develop and test their applications using state-of-the-art facilities at the Technology Innovation Centre.
Businesses in the Wireless Square Mile (the zone covered by the BT Wi-Fi infrastructure) can also benefit from a new marketing channel for accessing customers and from the creation of tourist trails.
The activities aim to make Birmingham the UK’s first Wireless City and create the ‘buzz’ of a region defining itself by technology. The project is being delivered by Birmingham City University and the University of Wolverhampton.
