Bio-Energy

Sustainable energy from bio-fuels is a major opportunity for businesses in the region and one of the main priorities of Innovation & Technology Council energy theme. Harper Adams University College is leading the project and supporting businesses through knowledge transfer events (including showcasing of the demonstrators already at Harper Adams) and training courses. The project will follow from a survey by Harper Adams of the members of Bioenergy WM which identified their knowledge and training needs of the region’s bioenergy stakeholders.
Harper Adams will also be supporting Birmingham City Council on a major feasibility study into using waste heat from the region’s incinerators to create sustainable bio-fuel in the form of wood chips.
The project will engage with 80 schoolchildren and involve them in tours of the University’s bio-mass combined heat and power generator and to stimulate their interest in low carbon technologies.
