BSC Communications scoops award
Birmingham Science City’s communications team has picked up a prestigious award for a PR campaign to raise awareness of science and technology.
‘Birmingham Science City – Science Fact or Fiction?’ was awarded the gold award in the ‘Not for Profit’ category at the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) Midlands PRide awards at the Hilton Metropole on Friday night.
The project was entered by Solihull-based PR agency McCann Erickson, which has worked with the in-house team on Birmingham Science City communications for the last two years.
The Birmingham Science City communications project, which ran until October 2011, was delivered by leading destination marketing agency Marketing Birmingham and funded by former Regional Development Agency Advantage West Midlands.
The winning campaign focussed on the blurring lines between science fact and science fiction and addressed the areas of science ‘fiction’ which Brits actually believed, as well as the fiction they would like to become a reality.
BSC Head of Communications, Jo Lumani, said: “We are delighted that this campaign has been awarded such a prestigious honour.
“It is the second year in a row that Birmingham Science City communications has been nominated for a CIPR Award, which I believe demonstrates that the project has been able to provide an interesting platform to drive debate and engage the public in science.
“Everyone connected with Birmingham Science City worked incredibly hard on this campaign and I would like to extend special thanks to McCann Erickson for working with the team to deliver such amazing results.”
One of six Science Cities around the UK, Birmingham Science City is a region-wide partnership of public sector, businesses and the research base, which is promoting the use of science and technology to improve quality of life and economic prosperity in the West Midlands.
