The Digital Heritage Demonstrator - Light House

The new £2.4 million ERDF funded West Midlands Digital Cultural Heritage Demonstrator project is now under way. The University of Birmingham Demonstrator team will be holding a series of external regional breakfast road shows to provide further detail on how West Midlands Creative Industries businesses can get involved and benefit from this innovative new project. The road shows will run from 8.30am until 10.00am, including a short presentation from Project Director Gino Bellavia, a chance to meet the team and network over breakfast with other regional Creative Industries businesses.

The Digital Heritage Demonstrator
Working in partnership with four of the region’s key heritage organisations – the Library of Birmingham, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust and the new Worcester HIVE, the project aims to demonstrate how collaborative projects exploring the use of digital technology with the Cultural and Heritage sector can develop new markets and increase profits for business.

Based in the new Heritage and Cultural Learning Hub. at the University of Birmingham, the project will offer tailored support from a wide range of experts in the field of digital technology and innovation and provide access to a suite of innovative multi-user, 3D multi-touch technologies, mobile devices and tablets, advanced user-testing facilities and augmented reality tools, all integrated into a unique digital prototyping lab. All collaborative digital demonstrator applications accessible through multi-touch tables, the web and mobile platforms will be showcased across our partner locations as well as at our state of the art digital prototyping suite at the University.

Together with the opportunities outlined above, the project in collaboration with the heritage sector will also offer a range of activities including a program of seminars, workshops, knowledge transfer partnerships, student internship and recruitment opportunities. Themes will cover a range of topics including use of new media to reach new audiences, social networking and the use of technology in galleries.

The event is free to attend. To reserve your place please register online or contact Louise Woodall
