Bio-energy
Sustainable energy from bio-fuels is a major opportunity for businesses in the region.
Harper Adams University College led on the project and supported businesses through knowledge transfer events (including showcasing of the demonstrators already at Harper Adams) and training courses. The project follows on from a survey by Harper Adams of the members of Bioenergy WM which identified their knowledge and training needs of the region’s bioenergy stakeholders.
Harper Adams also supported Birmingham City Council on a major feasibility study into using waste heat from the region’s incinerators to create sustainable bio-fuel in the form of wood chips.
The project engaged with 80 schoolchildren and involved them in tours of the University’s bio-mass combined heat and power generator, to stimulate their interest in low carbon technologies. The schoolchildren also took part in a debate on the use of crops for food versus fuel.
