Birmingham Hydrogen Event
The Birmingham Cleantech Cluster event is taking place on 29 February from 4pm at Eversheds offices and the theme is the Hydrogen Economy.
This event will provide a summary of the latest developments and identify business opportunities as hydrogen fuel finally has a route map to market for vehicular and stationary purposes. The recent launch of the UK H2 Mobility initiative involving 16 interested parties to develop a definitive action plan for the roll-out of hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles to consumers by 2014/15, coupled with the ongoing activities of several networks such as those based around Birmingham and the London Hydrogen Partnership, are designed to establish the necessary infrastructure which the proven and continually improving technologies require to gain market acceptance.
Birmingham has been a focus for leading innovation and technology development in hydrogen research for many years. A combination of world class researchers at Birmingham and Coventry Universities and a range of initiatives to develop the hydrogen economy in the region have created a centre of excellence to support the market development of this exciting but also challenging energy source.
This event will provide a status report on what has been achieved, set out what is going to happen next and identify what new contributions can be made to bring a sustainable hydrogen economy into reality.
Confirmed speakers and panellists include:
Graham Cooley – CEO ITM Power
Peter Speers – Programme Director of CENEX
Rupert Gammon – Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Energy and Sustainable Development at De Montfort University
Andrew Oldfield – Head of Cleantech at Mercia Fund Management
Prof Kevin Kendall – Prof of Formulation Engineering Birmingham University and researcher of hydrogen and fuel cells for 30 years.

We are also pleased to support the London Hydrogen Partnership, in collaboration with the Energy Generation and Supply Knowledge Transfer Network, in their half day event in London on 7 March, from 9.30am, entitled Stationary Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Showcase. The event will provide delegates with an opportunity to explore the benefits hydrogen and fuel cells offer in stationary applications, from residential fuel cell units to larger scale systems for heat and power generation; meet UK fuel cell and hydrogen companies installing and developing fuel cell and hydrogen systems, and discuss your specific interests and requirements; find out more about current projects in London, the UK and the rest of the world, and learn from customers’ experiences first-hand. The day will open with a welcoming speech from the Deputy Mayor and London Hydrogen Partnership chair Kit Malthouse. To register your interest in attending this unique half day of presentations and networking, please email lhp@london.gov.uk by 10th February 2012 and they will forward you a delegate registration form. Please be aware that places are limited and are allocated on a first come first served basis. Admission will be restricted to registered delegates only. A detailed agenda for the day, together with directions to the venue, will be circulated to registered attendees shortly.
